While the stars of The Devil Wears Prada 2 celebrated the welcome return of Miranda Priestley at the New York City premiere on April 20, there was one celebrity who might have been a bit bummed.
Sydney Sweeney was not at the red carpet event even though she was spotted in August 2025 by the Daily Mail on the set of the film. It was rumored, but never confirmed, that she had a cameo in the movie, but Entertainment Weekly confirmed on April 21 that her scene was cut.
Her moment in the iconic franchise would have come "near the beginning of the film," per the media outlet, but a "creative decision" was made to edit it out. EW reported that Sweeney was supposed to play herself as a client of Anne Hathaway's character, Andy Sachs, who is now a writer.
The scene was approximately three minutes long, but it "did not work structurally with the rest of the sequence" of reintroducing Andy to the audience. The insider called the decision to cut Sweeney "difficult" because they were "grateful for her participation."
The filming of the small role came in the middle of her American Eagle "great jeans" campaign last year. There were accusations that "jeans" was a play on the word "genes" and felt racially charged. The Euphoria star pushed back against the accusations.
"I was honestly surprised by the reaction," she told People in December 2025. "I did it because I love the jeans and love the brand. I don't support the views some people chose to connect to the campaign. Many have assigned motives and labels to me that just aren't true."
American Eagle also denounces any of the racist accusations in an August 1 Instagram post.
"'Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans' is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story. We'll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone," they wrote.
Even without Sweeney, The Devil Wears Prada 2 has plenty of celebrity cameos, including Lady Gaga, Heidi Klum, Paige DeSorbo, Jon Batiste, and Ciara. The movie opens nationwide on May 1.
